Getting that great parking spot could make you pile on the pounds

By reading the title of the post your probably wondering what I’m talking about and why I’m being such a pessimist, I mean we all want that perfect parking spot after all so were right next to the entrance to wherever were going. Wether its the cinemas, shopping center, grocery store or any other destination we all typically drive around looking for the closest possible spot to wherever it is were going. Realistically though this could be contributing to piling on the pounds.

Could parking help you lose weight?

Really, this post is based around the knowledge of how many calories you burn while walking. Most likely if your going for a walk somewhere then your doing it with the intent of burning calories and ultimately losing weight. If you can look at walking in this viewpoint then the same should be applied to where you park your car as it to is walking.

Typically a car park will be a good 100-200M long and about 100m wide. If you park at say the 200M mark to make things easier to work out that’s 1/5 of a mile.

I know this is not exact maths but you would typically burn say 100 calories per mile you walk so if you walk the length of the car park there and then back that’s 400M or 40 calories.

Although 40 calories isn’t a huge amount, it does ad up.

So there you have it, instead of parking right next to the entrance park as far away as possible or at a moderate distance to give your self some exercise. You never know, it could just work.
